Philosophy不等于“哲学”

原译：我知道哲学，可是实际上事情并非总是如此运行。
辨析：一见到philosophy不少人往往会不假思索地译为“哲学”。汉语中的“哲学”是个大词，总透着几分高深的色彩。按照《现代汉语词典》（第4版）的定义，“哲学”是“关于自然观的学说”，是“自然知识和社会知识的概括和总结”。该词典的第5版改为“关于世界观、价值观、方法论的学说”，是“在具体各门科学知识的基础上形成的，具有抽象性、反思性、普遍性的特点”。
可是在英语里，不但philosophy出现的频率要比汉语中的“哲学”高得多，而且词义范围也要宽得多。我们来看看The Concise Oxford Dictionary（第9版）给该词的定义：1、 the use of reason and argument in seeking truth and knowledge of reality, esp. of the causes and nature of things and of the principles governing existence, the material universe, perception of physical phenomena, and human behavior. 说穿了，就是对世上万物刨根求源，是中文“哲学”的意思。
2 .（a）. a particular system or set of beliefs reached by this. 这大概只能译作“（某种）哲学观”或“哲理”。 2.（ b）. a personal rule of life.最多也就是“人生观” 的意思。3、 advanced learning in general .意为“高深的学问”。我们都知道英语的博士学位称doctor of philosophy，但大多数不是“哲学博士”。4 、serenity; calmness; conduct governed by a particular philosophy, 这里说的意思更具体，表示“安详”、“镇定”或某种“行为准则”，远没有中文“哲学”的意思那么“高深”。
英语里有the philosophy of economics，combustion philosophy，甚至philosophy of cooking 等说法，这里的philosophy只表示“原理”的意思；the philosophy of an organization or institution是“某组织的宗旨”；而 my philosophy about this matter只是“我对该事件的看法”而已。
所以，从原文本身的上下文看，这里的philosophy也就是“道理”的意思。因此全句可以改译为：
道理我懂，可是现实中事情 /情况并非总是如此的。
