眼下，写博客似乎成了一股热潮，众多名人的加入，更使博客成为备受关注的热点。“博客”是从blog一词翻译而来的。blog是weblog（网络日志）的简称。blogger指撰写blog的人，很多时候也被翻译成“博客”。
一个博客就是一个站点，它通常由某个写手定期更新的张贴文章所构成；此外还有网站编辑定期访问的其他博客站点的链接。“博客”可以看作是个人的“公开日记”、对不同话题的看法和对各类新闻以及社会问题的评论。
A blog is defined as a website that has entries posted at regular intervals usually by a single writer and often accompanied by links to other blogs that the site’s editor visits on a regular basis.
2002年8月，中国第一个专门的博客门户网站“博客中国”成立。In August 2002, Blogchina, China’s first dedicated blogging website was established.
根据市场调查公司统计，中国网民中有数百万博客，还有更多的人正在加入博客行列。与此同时，大量手机用户可能很快加入移动博客行列。
Research by market survey companies shows that there are several millions bloggers among China’s netizens, and more are joining in. Meanwhile, a large number of cell phone users can soon be involved in “mobile blogs” or “moblog”.
